BBC: China proposes to let Xi Jinping extend presidency beyond 2023

China's governing Communist Party has proposed removing a clause in the constitution which limits presidencies to two five-year terms.

The move would allow the current President Xi Jinping to remain as leader after he is due to step down.

There had been widespread speculation that Mr Xi would seek to extend his presidency beyond 2023.

Party congress last year saw him cement his status as the most powerful leader since the late Mao Zedong.

WNU Editor: All that I can say is that there are a lot of people in China who are not happy with this move, and see this as a way to extend his rule from 2020 to 2035.

Looks like we are stuck with Xi. Of course I could've easily explained this to our leaders. Did they ask for my wise counsel? Of course not!! Had they done so Cold War 2 would be over and our country would be prospering like never in our history and we'd even have peace with china as well!! Unfortunately current US leadership is not so wise. Fortunately for us Russian leadership thinks we will figure this out eventually
. I share their optimism.

China is making one more mistake after giving more power of politic in the economy and reducing freedom. The effect is a long term one, but it will be very serious.

You surely believe that electing a new leader every 4 years, having a lame duck president for more than 9 months, and constant firing/hiring in all parts of the government in those intervals is highly effective, don't you? Democracy has its own problems

Also US democracy is arguably no longer a democracy that is accessible to all. Both, the democratic and republican party are private organisations (!) who get to choose the presidential candidate. Let that sink in. We saw what the DNC did to Bernie last election. We saw traitors like Donna Brazille manipulate the election process by passing on townhall questions to Clinton. She didn't even have to go to prison. Instead she wrote a book about it and got $4 million. Where is the uproar on the left about this? Actual election process collusion and manipulation. She even admitted to it and had to leave CNN. But got rich by doing it. That's democracy in the US right now.
